Ideas for Intertexual References

As our music video's narrative is her stalking somebody, while disscussing shots and locations, we started thinking about what intertexual references we could use from stalker movies to make the narrative clearer to our audience. These are some of the ideas we came up with:

  • On her dresser in the getting ready for a date sequence we thought we could reference Sleeping With The Enemy, by having all the items on her dresser lined up face forward. This is taken from the scene where Julia Roberts opens the cupboard to find everything perfect and that is how she knows the stalker has found her.
  • We also thought about referencing Fatal attraction by having a badge on our artist of a bunny, as the bunny boiling scene is a very well known one from stalker movies.
  • The Binocular shot is taken from the from cover of Disturbia, as its iconic with the guy looking through them and we will have this shot in the Bar/ Restaurant scene.
  • From One Hour Photo, we are going to have our main artist sitting on the floor looking at pictures of the guy to reference this
  • To reference Misery, we were thinking of possibly having a sledge hammer laying on the floor in her room and having it in the background of one of the long shots to give a subtle reference

  • Also in the Bar/Restaurant scene we are going to have her writing in a notebook about the guy she is stalking to reference Notes On A Scandal.
